Week One: Introductions

This week, we’ll begin our course by thinking about the peculiar nature of historical sources for the history of the early modern witch hunts. Rather than going over the details of our course material, I want to use in class time to highlight the types of questions we use to analyze historical witch trial documents and the challenges we face in answering them.

Preparation

Please read and annotate the google doc version of our course syllabus posted on the Chatboard. Your annotation can:

  • Ask a question about an aspect of the course.
  • Highlight what aspects of the course that you’re excited about.
  • Ask for clarification about an aspect of the course.
  • Respond to any of the course policies or frameworks.

In this class, I’ll also be dividing you into the small discussion groups you’ll be part of for the whole semester. Please sign up for a discussion group via the link posted on the chatboard.
