Proposal

Due February 10th on Blackboard

After completing the source analysis for your project, you should now have a general idea of where to take your research and some of the ideas that you would like to explore in your project. For this step of your project, I’d like you to submit a proposal according to the guidelines below. The proposal serves two functions: it provides you with a foundation from which to work on your project and it serves as a space through which I can help guide your research.

For help in finding sources, see: Final Project Resources

NOTE: If you quote or paraphrase from any sources while writing your proposal, make sure to provide citations.

For those doing the research essay option, your proposal should include:

  • Your research question (for help in formulating a research question, come and see Dr. Wessell Lightfoot).
  • A two paragraph description of your topic and the questions/issues your essay is going to explore. You should NOT have an argument/thesis at this point, rather a series of questions/ideas of what you would like to look at.
  • At least ONE primary source, summarizing what this source is about and how it will help you develop your essay.
  • At least FIVE secondary sources, summarizing each source and explaining how they will help you develop your essay.

For those doing the Witch Hunt Blog option, your proposal should include:

  • Overview of some of the details of your witch hunt
    • Time period
    • Geographical location
    • Accused witch (es)
    • Accusers
    • Type of crimes accused of having committed
    • outcome
  • At least ONE primary source, summarizing what this source is about and how it will help you develop your story.
  • At least FIVE secondary sources, summarizing each source and explaining how they will help you develop your story.
  • Any websites you have consulted (or plan to look at) and how they will help you develop your story.
